I worked with Mike off and on from the time he joined the company. I found him to be friendly, hardworking, and intelligent.
He was a pleasure and I hope he knew that everyone felt that way about him.
My best to his family, I wish I could type something to ease the pain.

I worked with Mike at Foxboro in the 80's and 90's and like many others that have left comments Mike was well regarded technically and was fun to work and seemed to young to leave us.

Mike was my lead engineer on several Foxboro Company/Siebe/Invensys/Schneider Electric projects in USA and England. Besides being an extremely talented and knowledgeable engineer, he was a joy to be around. He always had opinions on customers and company management that made you either laugh or cringe. When Mike worked at the Foxboro office, he would leave home early to be at work by 7:00 AM so he could leave work at 3:30 PM. We all had to plan our project work around Mike's schedule because he simply would not work beyond 3:30 PM unless it was really project critical and with much begging by me to work later. Customers respected Mike for his knowledge and team building. At Foxboro Company group management talks, the management presenter would cower when asking if there were any questions and Mike raised his hand (he always raised his hand!) to voice his complaint du jour. Such a happy-go-lucky guy that made projects complete on schedule and made work fun. He will be missed by many of us old timers.

Mike was a heck of a good control engineer. He always strived to find an effective simple solution to control problems and followed the KISS principle to a T, pleasing the customers.
When I joined the control group, I often turned to Mike for help to design my project control logic, and he always took the extra time to help me, for which I will always be grateful.
Besides being an exemplary engineer, Mike was devoted to his wife and daughters. I will miss Mike deeply and may God bless Mike and his family.

To the entire O'Brien family,
It is with great sadness to hear the news about Mike. I give my condolences to the family. I worked with Mike for over 35 years and can say that he was not only passionate and dedicated employee, he was an excellent engineer and mentored a number of junior engineers. I was his partner in the Company golf league for a number of years and enjoyed our endless discussions on our Boston based sports teams. Mike was never short on opinions and was passionate on many topics.
Mike, I hold the memories of you in my heart and you will always be remembered.
My Condolences,
Mark E. McCoy

May the cherished memories of Michael, who was renowned for his humourous disposition, gentle heart, and unfaltering generosity, bring comfort during this time of sorrow. His affable nature and insightful wisdom were apparent to all who knew him. Having had the honour to meet him through Sandy, our beloved school companion from South Hadley days, lasting impressions were forged that extend beyond their sweet courtship period.

I have fond memories of sharing a quad office with Mike (and Mark and Steve) at the Foxboro Company in the late eighties and most of the nineties. He was a good office mate and a good engineer. I am sad to know that he is gone.
I know that he cared very much about Sandy and Brittney and Caitlin. My heart is with you.
