Dave was a fine man. His optimism and willingness share a smile are two of the qualities I remember most about him. I am lucky that I was able to know, and befriend him. I will pray for his family to have strength and comfort.

I met Dave through a mutual client he built a home for in Oak Bluffs. Dave did an outstanding job! Clients rave about Dave's work, demeanor and communication. I am so sad for his wife, girls and entire Burgess Family. Dave was a great guy and will be deeply missed . Sending prayers.

When MV Post & Beam started representing American Post & Beam in 2014 I was introduced to Dave as a local contractor who was willing and able to meet the very high expectations of quality construction and timing that our companies required. Over the years I got to know Dave better and he provided much more that just these requirements. He instilled trust and warmth with every client we referred to him. Having been in the real estate business for over 50 years, I’ve seen what can go wrong in construction projects. Never with Dave’s! Over the past 7 years, Dave and Colony built several houses a year for us and never once was there ever an occasion that I was worried about our client’s projects. His business ethics, dedication and honesty were second to none. I can’t imagine the loss his family and co-workers are experiencing. We offer our deepest condolences during this very difficult time.

I have so many memories with my cousin. Destin FL, Blood Mtn, GA, Costa Rica, the Vineyards...which is when I met Marisa for the first time. He was always so much fun & definitely mischievous. He cut Connie's finger with an axe, jumped off Aunt Ruth & Uncle David's house with an umbrella like Mary Poppins. It didn't go so well. He broke an arm & a leg. He built a killer half pipe with his crew that he's stayed in touch with for all these years. He took that little blue Honda for a ride at night without asking. Dave was such an animal lover & was so skilled with his working hands. Marisa was so good for him. Delilah & Macy made him so proud! I'm gonna miss him. We all are. Fun times & memories is what he'd want everyone to think about. We'll continue to keep everyone in prayers. Just remember the good times.

The far to early passing of a very kind hearted family member--Highly talented and always a sharing person--I enjoyed watching "Dave" grow up into a very respected, talented and admired man--I always enjoyed time spent with Dave at the annual "Edmonds Family Reunions" in Georgia--He was always so polite to the aged family members and showed them respect and admiration-- Clearly raised with wonderful "values" by his very outstanding parents --He will long be remembered with regards--Buck Hartley (Letha Kvistad)--Tifton Georgia

When I first met Dave we were building a home in West Chop on Martha’s Vineyard. The truck delivering materials couldn’t clear the turn up a dirt road so Dave just reached in his truck for a chain saw and took out the tree obstructing our path and that’s how he introduced himself. In the ten years of working with Dave since, I’ve never seen him flinch at problems or hurdles. He was a generous friend, great gardener, loving father, talented craftsman, diplomat, jokester, athlete and on and on. I’ll miss his smile and optimism and presence. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
