Obituary of Robert J. Dray
Robert (Bob) J. Dray, 82, of Kingston, and formerly of Brockton, and Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2019 after a long and heroic battle with cancer.
Devoted husband of June A. Dray (McSweeney). Loving father to Kevin M. Dray, Kathleen A. Dray-Lyons (Richard Lyons), Robert F. Dray (Angela), Maureen Donohue (Joseph), and Patricia Karrat (Thomas). Son of the late Harry and Grace Dray (Hilliard). Cherished grandfather to Dina Dray, Richard (Rich) Lyons, Elizabeth Lyons, Robert (Bobby) Dray, Anna Donohue, Michael Karrat, Matthew Karrat, Katherine Donohue, Meaghan Karrat, Amanda Donohue, Emma Karrat, and great-grandfather to Grace Dray, and Kaikua Dray Cleveland. Beloved cousin and uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Bob Dray grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston. He was a 1956 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in Boston’s North End. There he captained and starred on the baseball and hockey teams. In hockey, Bob was the top scorer in the state; Record-American All-Scholastic; received a full athletic scholarship to Boston College.
Bob was a proud veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard. After his service, he moved to Brockton where he and his wife, June, lived for 18 years and raised their family. He coached Brockton Little League baseball and youth hockey for over 30 years. He has been a Kingston resident now for 36 years.
He worked for the Bardahl Company, Davies, Rose and Hoyt pharmaceuticals, and was an accountant and projects manager for Colgate Palmolive for over 25 years. He was featured on WCVB Chanel 5’s news magazine, Chronicle, for his collaborative work with the Charles River Center for adults with developmental disabilities.
Bob enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife and family and following the special interests, academic, athletic, and professional accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family.
A dedicated New England sports fan, Bob wholeheartedly cheered-on the home teams, and regularly discussed the nuances of the games with his family. An original Boston Bruins season ticket-holder, Bob’s allegiance to the team goes back to the days of the “Gallery Gods” at the old Boston Garden.
Bob loved to spend summers with his family at his summer home in Old Orchard Beach, ME. He enjoyed golfing and was a founding member of Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach. He was an avid gardener and a Food Network aficionado.
