Obituary of Geoffrey T. Englert (1952-2019)

Geoff was born in Garden City, Long Island, NY, the third son of George and Lorraine Englert. The Englert family moved to West Orange, NJ, where Geoff attended high school, earning varsity letters in football, baseball, and basketball. Geoff’s talent on the basketball court brought him a partial scholarship to Jacksonville University in Florida where he studied business. Geoff moved north to Boston and then to Scituate, MA, where he pursued a variety of business opportunities including, most recently, running his own newspaper distribution business along Boston’s South Shore. Geoff also coached high school basketball until his retirement a short time ago.

Geoff was an avid boater and fisherman, mooring his beloved Robalo boat every year for many years at Mary’s Boatyard on the North River. His love of boating was second only to his love of his dog, Micawber, who died much too young at the age of eight in 2017. Geoff was also a staunch supporter of the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox, and the Boston Celtics.

Geoff was predeceased by his older brother Gary in 2015, and is survived by his oldest brother George. Geoff is also survived by his partner of twenty-one years, Karen Baynes.  A loving, brilliant, endlessly curious, eccentric, thoroughly decent man, Geoff brought value and meaning to the lives of everyone he met.

Geoff passed away at his home in Kingston, MA, on July 29, 2019.
