Joan L Barnes 72, of Duxbury Massachusetts June 26th, 2011 after a long illness. Beloved wife for nearly 49 years of Dr. David E.Barnes. Daughter of the late Patrick and Kathleen (English) McDonnell originally of Co. Roscommon and Claremorris Co. Mayo Ireland respectively. Devoted mother of Kathleen Barnes and her husband Jonathan Carr of Liverpool England, Dr. Kelly Barnes Morrissey and her husband John of Wayland MA, David E. Barnes Jr. and his wife Gwynne of Berwyn PA. Doting grandmother of Caitlin, Kelly and Ian Carr, and Lindsey, David III, and James Barnes. Sister of John McDonnell and his wife Jean of Dover MA, Kathleen Miller and her late husband Howard of Wellesley MA, Thomas McDonnell of Bowdoin ME, George McDonnell and his wife Joan of Duxbury MA, and Mary Slavin and her husband Joseph of Natick MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by daughter Deborah Elizabeth July 6, 1967. She received a B.A. degree in 1960 from Massachusetts Teachers College of Boston and taught in the Norwood school system until her marriage. She had many interests and hobbies and was an active member of Holy Family Church in Duxbury serving as a Eucharistic minister until her illness. Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday June 28th. from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Shepherd Funeral home 216 Main St. Kingston MA. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Duxbury MA on Wednesday June 29th at 11am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the: American Heart Association or the American Lymphoma Society.
