I’ve been meaning for years to share my condolences with Joe’s family and friends. I met Joe many years ago at St Mike’s, and shared many laughs and a few beverages with him. He and I shared a love for our Irish heritage, and he was always such fun to be around. I’m glad our paths crossed in life. Joe was a smart fellow, and I know he had a great life.
Rest easy, Joe.

I read today, September 27th, in the St. Michael's College Magazine that Joe had passed away. Please accept my belated condolences with a repetition of old Catholic aphorism: "If the light has been extinguished, it is only becasue the dawn has arrived."
I graduated with Joe in 1969 and still remember his fun-loving nature, charming wit, and welcoming smile. When we last met at the 2009 class reunion, he admitted only to battling a "few health issues." Instead of talking about his condition, he wanted to relive, even for a few fleeting moments, some of our many adventures at St. Mike's. I will miss his funny class emails and ability to bring us together.

To Joe's family: July 13,2010
I am deeply saddened to learn of Joe's death, yet he fought a valiant battle and ran a good race. It is obvious that God wanted him out of his pain and to share a place with Him in Paradise.
I regret that I only got to know Joe the last three or four years, but they were fruitful years. Always a smile and a warm handshake were his trademarks.
During a visit to his home just a few weeks before his death, he still managed to give a warm smile and a handshake, as difficult as it was to do.
I know at this very sad time in your lives, you know we must depend on our faith which tells us, "Life is not ended but merely changed." One day, God Willing, we will meet again in our Heavenly Home where there will be no more pain or suffering and where every tear will be wiped away.
St. John, in quoting Jesus, said, "Remember, man, it was not YOU who chose ME but I who chose you."
My prayers go with Joe and the loved ones he left behind, and they were numerous. I pray that God will give you the strength to survive the difficult days which lie ahead. May God Bless all of you.

Dear Rosemary and Family,
I was so sorry to learn of Joe's passing. Please accept my deepest sympathy. He was a fine and courageous man. I knew Joe from our time at St. Michael's College. He was a leader from the day he stepped onto campus and has continued to serve his alma mater well. I know your loss is much more profound then his college buddies, but please know that he will be missed by the entire St. Michael's community, especially the Class of '69.
May your sorrow be soften by all of your happy memories of Joe. God bless you and your family.

My sincere condolences. I am very sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Over the years I worked on many committees at CAR that Joe counseled. He was very good at what he did but even in that context Joe had an unmistakable warmth and sense of humor. He will be missed by all of us that had the privilege to know him and work with him.

Rosemary,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Joe was a great man, an exceptionally capable and fair public servant, and most of all, a loyal, caring friend. For all of the spirited debates that we had over the years, Joe was never as energized and enthusiastic as he was when he talked about you and the children. He adored his family and spoke with great pride about all of you. I, along with many people in this community, will miss him.
