Obituary of Nivard Kohout CDP

Sr. Nivard Kohout, CDP, 78, Sister of Divine Providence for 63 years, of Kingston, died Oct. 19. She was born on Feb. 18, 1931 as Lois Bernadette Kohout in Carrick, PA., the second daughter of Edward and Marie (Kraus) Kohout. She is survived by her sister Barbara Kohout of Kingston as well as her sisters in the community. She was also the sister of the late Sr. Dolores Kohout CDP and a brother Edward who died in infancy. Excelling in music and art, Sr. Nivard taught at Sacred Heart Elementary and High Schools in Kingston and St. Cecilia in Stamford, CT. She spent several years on the faculty at Stonehill College in North Easton, MA. After years as an educator, Sr. Nivard’s skills were developed further as the administrator at Providence House and then, successively, as Principal, Development Director, Business Administrator and finally in special projects at Sacred Heart High School. Visiting hours on Wed. Oct.21 at the Providence House, 363 Bishop’s Highway, Kingston from 2-5 and 6-7:30PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:30PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thurs. Oct.22 at Scared Heart High School Chapel, 399 Bishop’s Highway, Kingston at 3:00PM. Interment in Our Lady of Divine Providence Cemetery, Kingston.
