Scott Edward Nelson (Nelly), 58, of Middleboro, passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 17th, 2017. He was the devoted and loving husband of Susan (Cutting) and proud father of Matthew Nelson and his wife Tess of Middleboro, Dan Nelson of Quincy, and Kiley Boutin of Rochester. Scott is also survived by his mother Maureen Nelson of Carver, his sister Donna Nelson of Plymouth, his brother Brian Nelson of Madison, FL, his in-laws, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his father Donald. Born December 29th, 1958 in Boston, he was the eldest son of the late Donald and Maureen Nelson. He was raised and educated in Middleboro. Upon graduating from Middleboro High School, Class of 1976, he attended and graduated from Fitchburg State College, Class of 1980. He immediately began his career at MHS, most notably as a teacher, football and softball coach. Nelly wore many hats during his time at the high school, in addition to working summers at Camp Norse as a Boy Scout leader and counselor and later at the Middleboro Park Department. Nelly was passionate about many things, notably football, fishing, but most importantly, his family. His passing is not only a great loss for his family and loved ones, but also for the Middleboro community. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday July 26th from 4-8:00 pm at the Middleboro Town Hall, Grand Ballroom, 10 Nickerson Avenue Middleboro. A memorial service will take place immediately after with Fr. John Sheridan presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nelly’s name can be made to“Middleboro’s Dollars for Scholars” c/o Rockland Trust Company, 30 South Main Street Middleboro.
