Dear Carter family, My thoughts are with you during this time. Shirley was a gracious, caring lady with style. My mom, Shirley Brackett, loved being around her and when she was going through her own health issues, Shirley would come visit her. We used to have lunch "ice cream" together and that made both my mom and Shirley very happy. I'm hoping and praying they are having their "lunch" together now and that she can give my mom a big hug... Love to the family...

Shirley was truly an elegant, beautiful, accomplished lady. The Denniston family sends their love and and prayers to the Carter family. We are sure Moose is dancing with Poops and all the angels in Heaven at this very moment.

Oh how I hated to read of Shirley's passing. From the day we met over forty years ago, I wanted to "grow up" to be like her: beautiful, accomplished, smart and gracious. I admired her for her mid-life PhD and her quiet determination to help people of all walks of life to read. I loved her sweet smile and her fun-loving laugh. We will miss that indomitable lady behind the wheel of her red BMW convertible. We are better for having known her.

Although I only knew Shirley through The Community Garden Club of Duxbury, to me, she was a talented, intelligent and soft spoken lady and a delight to know. I will miss her.
