William W. Nickerson,64, of Pembroke, died March 17 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was a loving son of the late Willard W. and Sarah (Davis) Nickerson of Pembroke. He attended Pembroke schools and was a 1967 graduate of Silver Lake Regional High School. He attended Bridgewater State College, graduating in 1971 with a BA degree in Earth Science. He was a local substitute teacher and ended his career with a 23 year stay as a middle school science teacher for the town of Middleborough. He was a chaperone and coordinator of many school vacation trips to Walt Disney World and more significantly, six to seven cross country camping trips to Alaska and the West Coast. He leaves behind a brother James and his wife Nell of Morgan, UT; a brother David and his wife Janice of Halifax, and a brother Richard and his wife Janette of Plympton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Fri. March 22 at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke Center, at 11:00AM. Cremation and spreading of the ashes will be done privately. Memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of William Nickerson to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
