MUD PIES was given to me by my mother when I was about 5 years old. The quaint illustrations led me to believe that it was of the same vintage as my mother's own dolls, but it was simply timeless. I have bought the book for many new parents over the years and still get a kick out of my own worn copy. Thanks to Ms. Winslow's imaginative book, as a child I consumed as many mud pies as peanut butter sandwiches, but am the better, not the worse, for it. Ms. Winslow's loss will be felt by many a child, new and old.
