Pam - we are so sorry to hear of Al's passing. We will miss stopping to visit with him while he was taking such great care of your yard and seeing you walk the neighborhood together. He will be sorely missed in the neighborhood.

Al was the principal of East Bridgewater High School when I first met him -- he hired me in the spring of 1971 for my first teaching position in the Department of English. A finer, more dedicated, more knowledgeable or kindler and gentler school administrator I've never met before or since. He was in all ways a remarkable person -- a superb individual in every respect. I am forever grateful to him for all he did for me and my career.

I learned a lot from Mr K. He was my 9th grade English teacher the year he went back to classroom after being principal. He was kind and really cared about all of us. My favorite memory is about the Xmas party that he said we couldn't have because we had a test. We planned it anyway and gave him a monogrammed cross pen as a gift. Of course, he still made us take the test.
My sympathies go out to his wife and children.
God bless you.

I am a 1982 graduate of EBHS, and knew Albert (affectionally we called him KJ) as teacher, principle, guidance counselor, and friend. I remember especially a performance of a setting of T.S. Elliot's 'Old Possum's book of Practical Cats' for trumpet piano and speaker - several of the 'cats' had been changed to describe members of the music department.
I considered KJ more than a teacher, he was a mentor, and friend. Even though I unfortunately lost touch, living so far away, I have always carried the memory of that friendship in my heart. His belief in me is something I've always carried with me, and it has helped me through some rough spots. I still on occasion take out my yearbook to read the long passage he wrote for me when I need encouragement.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time, and I wanted to share with you how much Albert touched my life. His humor, encouragement and kindness are definitely part of who I am today as mother, teacher, and musician.
Thank you, Albert.
My sincere best wishes, and condolences,
Kathleen Weidenfeller

I am very sorry for your loss. Mr Kjellerstedt was my guidance counselor at EBHS in 1981/1982. He was a big help to me with college preparatory planning and overall a great mentor. He is one of the very few teachers I remember from 30+ years ago that had a positive impact on my life.

KJ was principal when he and Stan Hatch hired me for my first teaching job in 1972. He supported me through many difficult times when other forces did not and I am forever grateful to him for that support. He made my position at EBHS a true love of work. We laughed a lot, chaperoned ski trips together, attended school events, and truly had a passion for each other's work. I will certainly miss Al and his thoughtful kindness. Our, Patti’s and mine, thoughts and sympathies are with the Kjellerstedt family.
PS Pam, slow down and little.

My condolences go out to Pam, Nancy and Al’s family and friends. We have all lost a great friend, colleague and educator. For 38 years Al contributed to East Bridgewater High School in nearly every way possible, as a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, activities advisor, Assistant Principal, and Principal. He embraced all his roles with enthusiasm and commitment. He was my trusted colleague for 33 years; but first, He was my High School English teacher for two years at EBHS; everyone’s favorite teacher in the 60’s. Pam, maybe you remember Vern Post and me knocking on your door on Pleasant Street Saturday mornings to get Al to come and open the school so that we could play basketball. This was not unusual. Al always was there to help anyone, and after three years, he progressed from a horrible to a good basketball player. I became a teacher mainly because of Al’s influence, I patterned myself after Al; hoping to positively impact students as he impacted my life. Al had a positive influence on thousands of students and teachers at East Bridgewater High School; he was a thoughtful, compassionate educator who was committed to his students and colleagues. I will never forget him, he is in my heart forever.

A little note to you....Mr. Kjellerstedt. I will never forget the time you took and the care you showed when I decided to leave high school. The smiley face note you gave me as my last note to leave the school. What a caring person and I have always thought of you. You would be proud today as I sit with 22 years of sobriety. I believe it is people like you, who touch peoples lives like mine .. that make the differance. You made a differance.
Sincerely and with Prayers

To Al's family,
I was a student at EBHS from 72-76. I can remember very vividly sitting in his office on a few occasions. He was a true gentleman. I ran into him a few times after college and my military service (US Army) and we a few nice conversations about the old school, friends and how life turned out. May he rest in peace and Godspeed to the family. My prayers to all.

Al was the principal who took a chance on hiring me as a reading teacher for the high school when I was fresh out of college. We argued in my interview and continued throughout the forty years we knew each other, but Al was a kindhearted mentor whose bluster was much worse than his bite. I loved him dearly and respected him even more. He will be forever remembered as the Dean of East Bridgewater High School, as named by George Kelly. But I will forever remember him as my dear friend.

Mr. K was a wonderful mentor to me, a great positive force in my life. I told him that once years ago, after my East Bridgewater days, but wish now I had repeated it a few more times. Thank you, Mr. K, and rest in peace.
