Obituary of James Walter Patts
James Walter Patts, 76, of Duxbury, MA, passed away on January 24, 2025 at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, surrounded by his family.
Jimmy was born in Quincy, MA to John and Teresa (Clare) Patts on Feb 26, 1948. The oldest of seven brothers, he grew up on Fairfield St in Braintree. He enjoyed playing baseball and being coached by his dad.
He graduated from Braintree High School in 1966. In later years, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Eastern Nazarene College.
During his teenage and young adult years, he was a proud member of The Sir Thomas More Drum and Bugle Corps in Braintree. After several years playing, he became a member of St Kevin’s Emerald Knights based in Dorchester, MA. It was during this time where he met his wife, Kathy. He enlisted in the US Navy, where he was stationed out of Boston and served on the USS Myles C. Fox. He was medically discharged and received the National Defense Service Medal.
Early on in his career, he worked as a lineman at New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and eventually retired from Verizon management after 40+ years of service.
Jimmy was married to Kathy in 1973 at St Kevin’s Church in Dorchester and went on to have three children together. He was the true family man, coaching and attending his children’s sports teams, taking his family on vacation, and enjoying family dinners on Duxbury Beach. Humor was one of his greatest qualities and always knew how to lighten the mood no matterthe occasion.
He cherished his lifetime friends from Braintree and Dorchester, and loved reminiscing about the funny stories of their past. He was a past member of The Knights of Columbus based out of Holy Family Church in Duxbury.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Kathy of 51 years and three children Jacqueline Patts (Michael) of Barre VT, James Patts (Erin) of Redding, CT, and Michelle Dailey (Andrew) of Hanover, MA. He was known as “Grampy” by his six cherished grandchildren Jennie, Ashlyn, Julia, Emmet, Joseph, and Claire. He was also deeply loved by his brothers Jack, Kevin, and Kenny, and his three deceased brothers David, Stephen, and Billy.
Memorial donations in Jimmy’s name may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or Disabled American Veterans , two organization he was proud to support.
Visiting Hours will be Tuesday, January 28th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Shepherd’s Funeral Home, 216 Main St Kingston, MA. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Angels Parish (St Mary’s) in Hanover- 392 Hanover St, RTE 139, Hanover MA. Burial will immediately follow at Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury, MA.
