Obituary of Anthony Morgan Markella
Anthony Morgan Markella
The circle of life always comes with sharp edges. This is one of them. Friday morning, January 17th, Anthony Morgan Markella of Plympton passed away surrounded by family and loved ones. He was 89.
He was a lot of things to a lot of people. Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, avid tennis player, bocce enthusiast, and general knower of all things. He was a serious, educated man with an easy laugh and an even easier way around the playing field: high school quarterback, Ivy League football and baseball star, and a lifelong force on the tennis court. He was proud of his Harvard experience, his Italian heritage, but most of all, he was proud of his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. And if you looked up the phrase “tall, dark, and handsome,” it would say, “see Markella, Tony.” The circle will soon round off this edge, but right now, it’s a little sharp.
He was predeceased by his son Charles Edward Markella, his father Judge Ermon Markella and mother Mattie of Brockton, his brother Frederick Markella of Abington, and his sisters Jean Leete of South Windsor, CT, and Lois Markella of Brockton. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Helen Markella of Plympton, and his three sons, Jonathan Markella and his wife, Robin Hallowell, of Duxbury; Phil Markella and his wife, Alison, of Plymouth; and Anthony Markella II and his wife, Liz Bradley, of Duxbury. He also leaves three stepdaughters and their families: Michelle Phippen of Plympton, Carlyn Richard of Bourne, Alicia and Tom Reddington of Norwell, and Heather Richard Hall of Kingston.
A celebration of life event will be held in early spring.
In Loving Memory
