DONALD PATRICK HUNT

Born October 28, 1931 in Farnborough, England to Harry John William and Henrietta Matilda (Harmsworth) Hunt, Donald was called home when the Good Lord tapped him on his shoulder at dawn on November 10, 2024.

Donald greatly valued his education and after serving an apprenticeship at the Royal Aircraft Establishment at the historic Farnborough factory site he earned Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Cranfield University. He went on to win a King George VI Fellowship to come to the states to attend the Sloan School of Management at MIT where he earned another Master’s Degree in Business Management.

While at MIT, Donald met the love of his life Anne (Cuddire) and spent the 63 years of marriage totally devoted to her and their family consisting of Brenda (Crawshaw), Donald and Larry. He adored his grandchildren Larry (Crawshaw), Willem (Shaw Hunt), Madeleine (Shaw Hunt) and Elizabeth (Shaw Hunt) along with his beloved children-in-law Stephen (Crawshaw) – also his godson, Lisa (Shaw Hunt) and Shelly Hunt.

As an engineer, Donald loved designing and executing all kinds of home improvements and acquired an artisan level of skill in woodworking. The custom work he did in the family home was often commented on by professional contractors and he enjoyed showing them all the clever ways he’d designed his work to maximize all the best features.

Donald was also an excellent strategist when it came to maximizing resources in a wide variety of manufacturing processes. His ability to foresee the effects of small and large changes led to his continual advancement throughout his professional career, moving around the eastern United States for many years. It was only when his children were all of school age that the family established their home base in New England.

Donald was well known for his British sense of humor and sharp wit. To the very end, he found humor and delight in the goings-on and never missed an opportunity to express his deep love to everyone whom he cherished. Donald often reflected on his life and marveled at how he felt he’d been the luckiest man on earth. He said he was blessed to have no regrets whatsoever, other than never having had the opportunity to show TV anchormen how to properly knot a necktie.
