Obituary of Patricia Merritt
Patricia “Pat” Merritt
October 13, 1935 - November 6, 2024
She was born and raised in Rockland, MA and was the oldest of 7 children. Growing up she loved dancing and figure skating and was a majorette at Rockland High School. She passed peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She had a lengthy career in sales including being the first female sales representative for Craftsman's tools in addition to multiple direct sales businesses, and many years as a self employed business owner in various catering, and interior design businesses. She was known as a strong woman that could just as easily be found repairing the fuel line on her car one day and baking homemade bread and making yogurt the next day. She will be remembered as an avid crafter (before crafting was cool) including a love of quilting, painting, sewing, wreath and ribbon making. If you needed to be bedazzled you knew where to go - “just call Grandma”. In their semi-retirement she and her husband Al relocated from Hanson, MA to Florida where they enjoyed spending days at the beach and had the opportunity to attend many of the launches at Cape Canaveral. She also spent time volunteering at the local food bank and delivering Meals On Wheels.
She is predeceased by her husband Al Pendexter and her brother, Allan Merritt. She is survived by her eight children, Joann (Clogston) Webb and her late husband Ken, Robert Clogston, Diann (Clogston) Weckbacher and her husband Bill, James Clogston and his wife Mary, Peter Clogston and his wife Kerry, Alison (Clogston) Parks and her husband Ken, Tricia Michaud and Matthew Michaud. She was the doting grandmother to Kristin, Bobby, Stephanie, Brian, James, Ashley, Evan, Melissa, Samantha, Jay, Sarah, Peter, Michael, Bailey, Kristina, Corine, Mark James and Riley and her 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Charles “Butchie” Merritt and his wife Maria, Jeffrey Merritt and his wife Carol, Dorothy Kempton, Mary Lou Tanner and her husband David and her youngest sister Linda Merritt and her husband Ken Thomson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to their cousin, Pat’s niece Lori Merritt for her love and care in Pat’s final days.
A private burial service will be held on Saturday - November 23, 2024 at 11am at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Pembroke, MA where she will be buried with her late husband Al.
In Loving Memory
