Obituary of Janyce L. Williamson

Please share a memory of Janyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Janyce L. Williamson of Duxbury, MA passed away Monday August 19, 2024 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA, surrounded by her loving children. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Edith Wood of Waltham, MA and predeceased by her husband and best friend, Norman B. Williamson.

She was a graduate of Waltham High School, class of 1961, and she went on to hold multiple jobs. Her favorite roles in life were that of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her late husband, Norman Williamson was her confidant, travel companion, and true soul mate. They spent 43 amazing years married and growing a family.

Without hesitation, Janyce lived her days “helping others,” pouring herself into her family, friends, and grandchildren and was considered by many to be their “rock.” She had a remarkable quality of quietly and confidently showing others how to live and reminding them of what is important in life. She never wanted praise, nor did she ever boast or brag. A true altruist, Janyce was selfless and compassionate.

Janyce was passionate about history, traveling, reading, discussing politics, listening to classical music, and going to theaters and museums with her family and friends.

Janyce is survived by her son, Gary Williamson and wife Veronica of Duxbury, her daughter Lynn Williamson of Kingston, her daughter Amy Burns and husband Rob of Kingston and daughter Jill Widdop and husband Eric of Duxbury. She was especially proud and delighted to be the “Mimi” of her seven grandchildren; Drew, Riley, Carleigh, Reagan, Margaret, Bob and Timothy.

She is one of six children and cared deeply for her siblings: Dick Wood and wife Mary, the late David Wood and his wife Anne, Evelyn Wood, the late Doris King and her husband Allen, and Robert Wood and his wife Cheryl.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24th, at the Pilgrim Church, 404 Washington Street, Duxbury and all are welcome. Doors will open at 9:30 for quiet reflection filled with music.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Janyce may be made to Brigham and Women's Hospital: Brigham and Women's Shapiro Cardiovascular Center
