Margaret Theresa Kelleher 1936-2024

Margaret was born in Liscannor, County Clare, Ireland on June 14, 1936 to Margaret and Patrick Kierce.  At age 15, Margaret went to London for two years before moving to Boston, MA, where she met her husband, Patrick John Kelleher, also of County Clare, Ireland.

She is survived by her children, Mary Kelleher of Boston, MA; Kevin Kelleher and his wife Paula of Plymouth, MA; Brian Kelleher of Plymouth, MA; Shaun Kelleher and his wife Lisa of Alexandria, VA; Patrick Kelleher of Kingston, MA; Theresa Kelleher Skinner and her husband Kevin of Dorchester, MA; James Kelleher of Kingston, MA; Michael Kelleher of Kingston, MA; Joseph Kelleher and his wife Chrissy of Lutherville, MD, and a dear family friend, Eric Midgley of Kingston, MA.  She is also survived by her siblings, Maura Hoarty, Brendan Kierce, Nora Danaher, Paddy Kierce, Tommy Kierce, and Anna Heaney. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her sons, Brendan Kelleher and Paul Kelleher, her husband Patrick Kelleher, and her siblings John Joe Kierce, Helen McGeoghean, Lily Moriarty, Bridie Thynne, Kathleen O’Shea and Kevin Kierce.

She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Erica, Tessie, Adam, Brian Jr., Nicole, Kieran, Aidan, Kali, Gregory, Caitlin, Brendan, Ryan, Alicia, Hannah, Gillian, Claire, Paddy and Danny and her great-grandchildren, Connor, Declan, Fiona, Sophia, Ollie, Maggie, Shai, Piper, and Gwen.

Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She would light up whenever a new little one came into the world. She loved to hold them close and cradle them in her arms.  All her children and grandchildren delighted in singing, dancing, and laughing with grandma.

Margaret had incredible generosity of spirit.  She always made people feel welcome in her home offering food, drink, laughter and cheer.  At Christmas, unexpected visitors would be given a gift from “Margaret Mart,” leaving them wondering how she knew they were stopping by.  She was always open and willing to share with others without any expectation of receiving something in return.

She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Amaryllis Foundation. She was an active member of the Kingston Council on Aging and enjoyed spending time with friends during luncheons and events.  Over many years, she has helped countless individuals who were friends of Bill’s.  She established the Kelleher Family Memorial Scholarship Fund and for 43 years has given scholarships to Silver Lake graduates who are entering the medical field or a helping profession. True to her spirit, she instilled the importance of helping others in need by performing small acts of kindness.  Her example has made a difference in this world and has taught us about empathy, kindness and selflessness.

Visitation will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street Kingston, MA 02364 from 3:00-7:00 p.m.on Sunday June 30, 2024.
