Obituary of Philip K. McNiff

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Phillip (Phil) K. McNiff, of Duxbury, (affectionately referred to as “the doctor” by many of his close friends) loving husband, veritable patriarch and friend to many tipped his hat one last time, and passed Monday May 27th surrounded by his loving family.

Husband of Jane McNiff, father to Sandra Hatch of Wareham, Christopher McNiff of Kingston, Tracy Staples of Amherst and the late P.K. McNiff.

Brother of James McNiff of Natick, grandfather of 15, great grandfather of 12, four nieces, foster father of deceased Barbara Opell of Kingston, predeceased by foster sister Louise Demeule of Salem.

Phil was born in Salem and raised in Newton Ma, Greenwich CT, and Riverdale New York where he graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School. For the first seven years of his life, he was raised by his beloved foster mother. He graduated from Nichols college where he played football and obtained a business degree.

After graduating he moved to Boston where he met and married the love of his life, Jane McNiff, after just 5 months. Without Jane there was no Phil. The couple relocated to Duxbury, MA where they lived for 65 years raising 4 beautiful children. A venerable family man, Phil worked hard to support Jane and the children most notably for 20 years at the Catholic Association of Foresters as a Sales Director.

Phil loved traveling, tennis, trips to Provincetown, New York and Fenway Park and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic, and attended Mass daily.

Ever sharp as a tack, Phil will be remembered for his sunny disposition, his zingers, one liners and near perpetual high jinx with his many P-town friends

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 2nd from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) in Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Norwell VNA and Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

** Mr. McNiff's funeral mass at Holy Family Church in Duxbury will be postponed to a later date **
