He was the only teacher I ever had who made me believe I could be good at math. An absolute gem of a human being who made his students feel like he was invested in their learning. Years after graduating, I visited the school and he immediately knew and greeted me as though I had never left. My deepest condolences to his family; he spoke of you all often in class. What an amazing legacy he has left.

Mr Dinolo brought so much light to the world, relentless in his pursuit to educate and empower. Though Mr. Dinolo was a teacher at NHS while I was a student, it was only by chance that he covered for my class one day during which he brought up his love for fly fishing. That day began a friendship during which we took many Saturday road trips to chase trout and the occasional bass. His ability to speak endlessly about any number of topics filled out trips with hours of chats on life, our interests, and what it meant to be a human. He always had a joke or insightful word to share. I will always cherish our trips and the reassuring focus on grounding yourself in those few things that matter in life while staying flexible for all the other comings and goings.
One of his favorites was "No matter what happens tomorrow, today is in the books, and nobody can change that" Thanks Mr Dinolo for helping me add so many good days to my books, nobody can change that but I will always be thankful to you for that.
Rest in peace my friend.
With love,
Colter

Mr. DiNolo was an amazing teacher and human being. So many great memories. Hard to say how many young people he inspired to appreciate the subjects he taught (geometry for me) and to love teaching thru his passion and energy. Without a doubt, Mr. DiNolo has made this world a better place thru the lives he taught. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Mr. DiNolo was such an amazing force in our school. His passion and deep knowledge along with his humor made math fun to learn and it instilled in me a love of algebra. I remember so well when he took a bunch of us for a hike up Mt Monadnock in NH. It was the first time I went up a mountain and it was just a wonderful experience. Years later I brought my young nephew on a hike up Monadnock...I don't recall it being so hard!! I hike and backpack as much as I can and when I do I think of one of my favorite teachers, ever, who brought us to a mountaintop. My deepest sympathies to his many many lived ones.

Hey Mr. Dinolo,
Sorry you have passed on, I can still remember how you always said "Hi" to everyone, always helping someone and I have tried to continue your examples of kindness throughout my life. I'm still a very "verbal" member of the Downey family (now a Del Gaizo) & never did ever get my degree, just never could settle down to 1 specific field. I should have joined the Forensics club in High School but made up for it later on in life, took it as I was working on a Criminal Justice degree, passed the Police exam and because of my late start in life...a polite way of saying I was too old :), became a Security Guard instead of a LEO. You never knew the impact you had on my life, and you were a memorable teacher in my life. Thank you for being YOU! I'm sure you had a positive impact on many others, maybe they're not brave enough to write it here, maybe they'll say a prayer for you instead, but I thank God that He brought you into my life. May God watch over you & your family. Michele Del Gaizo (Downey girl, class of 1981)

Mr DiNolo was one of the highlights of a Norwell education. He was so much more than an excellent teacher (thanks, I still like algebra!), he was an excellent person! He was funny, and really cared about his students. When I hear Mozart, I often think of him, casting an imaginary fishing line into the air as we tolled away at a math exam. Rest in Peace. You were loved by many.

I’m so sorry to hear of Mr. DiNolo’s passing. He was my math teacher at NHS, for 1 year and was such a great teacher. He never yelled, we respected him, and I still remember how he made us laugh with the FOIL pneumonic when solving polynomial equations. He was one of the best. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

I had no idea Mr Dinolo had passed until today, but I have thought of him often over the years, and just mentioned him last Saturday as one of the best teachers I’ve had. He taught so much more than math. He really saw the best in all his students and treated us as if we were mature and responsible, in a way that made us truly not want to let him down. The line in his obit about him having a soft spot for struggling students is the main thing that sticks with me about him. In a school that prides itself so much on academic rigor, struggling students were identified overlooked. But never by Mr Dinolo. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. What an exemplary human. Wishing peace to his loved ones in this difficult time.

Mr. DiNolo was the best teacher, simply the best.
I was blessed to have him as a math teacher for a few years in High School , then as a coach while playing JV softball.
He was so kind, funny, and and truly cared about his students. I remember how much he would speak of his daughter's at the time and loved them so very much. Whenever asked about who my favorite teacher was, I always say Mr. DiNolo. Thank you so very much for all you gave to your students. Thank you for your kindness , patience and for being a teacher that I will never forget.
God Bless you. Sending sympathy to your family and praying for you during this very difficult time.

I graduated from NHS in 2002. Although I never had Mr DiNolo as a teacher myself, his vibrant presence in the school community is still fresh in my memory. His positivity, endless compassion and selflessness towards his students is something I will always remember. I send my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, but know that his profound effect on peoples’ lives will continue to ripple throughout time. ❤️

Mr. DiNolo was one of a kind. He helped me immensely and I’m so grateful to have had him twice for a teacher. From his humor to his baking skills and pasta lunches he shared with his students; to sharing his emotions and thoughts through poetry- Mr. DiNolo was amazing. I learned a lot from him, and even some math along the way. ❤️
Grazie, Mr. D.

There are simply no adequate words to describe a friendship of forty years, and all of the memories that we created together, and which will never grow dim or fade. My dearest friend Paul (Paolo to me) was so much more to me than just a friend - teacher, mentor, advisor, encourager and most importantly, my sounding board when I needed a confidante during challenging personal times. His many, many friends all know he was one of a kind and that there will never be another person like him. To Judy, Amy, Chrissy and Beth, I offer the words of the 19th century Bengali poet Rabindranatha Tagore: "Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because a new dawn has come." He will be missed.

Mr. DiNolo was my homeroom teacher for four years, my math teacher for one, and then later a colleague. Funny, professional, helpful and a keen story teller, he forever remains woven into my favorite memories from my time at Norwell High School. He was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone, and his kindness was so touching. Every day I use something in my classroom that I learned from him. The gentlest of hugs to his family - he spoke of you with such glowing pride. He truly was a love.

I am a graduate of Norwell High (90). Mr. DiNolo was one of the kindest instructors I ever had. It is a lot to say he was one of my favorite teachers especially since he taught my most difficult subject, math. 34 years later I say things to my children that Mr. DiNolo would tell us in class. That is a lasting impact. I am grateful to have known him.

How do we begin to share only one memory after more than 50 (!) years of friendship? Remembering Paul kibitzing with my dad and Paul speaking Yiddish and Sidney answering in Italian. What a pair! But that was Paul. He had the unique ability to connect with all generations, entertain them with stories and make people laugh. What a gift his friendship was to us and he will be missed. I remember the 1st time I got to meet Paul. I was his daughter Amy's Algebra student and I sang her Acapella group at my High School. Me and a few other students had the honor of singing at Amy's Wedding, so we practiced at her parents house in Duxbury. That's when I met her lovely Mom and hilarious Dad Paul. He played me some songs on the piano, and cracked many funny jokes that almost gave me an asthma attack! He was so cool, I couldn't stop boasting about him to Amy. I went home and told my family, & friends. Every time I saw him thereafter he had a smile on his face and he was spreading joy throughout the room. Words can not describe how deeply sorry I am that he is no longer here with his beautiful family and friends. As we celebrate his life let's never forget his enthusiasm and the love he had for each and everyone of you. He made everyone he met feel special because he was special! "As long as he has the love of each of you, Paul can live his life in the hearts of all of you".

Paul was one of the first people I worked with at Norwell. We were on a rubric PD cohort together and while we worked, we laughed. We had great debates and were proud of where the collaboration landed us. He was always quick with a joke or a story about fly fishing, and always made sure every member of the NHS community knew they were family. May his memory be a blessing.
