Obituary of Gloria Ann Cook

Gloria Ann Cook age 87 of Carver, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on December 16th.

Gloria was born and grew up in Plymouth to the parents of Laura and George Sewall. She attended local schools and went to Christ Church. As a teenager she worked for the John Alden Gift Shop on the Plymouth waterfront.

In 1952 Gloria married Gordon Cook in Plymouth, and in 1968 built a new home and moved to Carver with their expanding family of seven children. They were married until 1980 due to Gordon’s passing.

While raising her family Gloria worked at Al and Bea’s restaurant, Haliday Lithograph in Plympton and cared for the elderly parents of friends.

Gloria loved to read, bowl and a trip to the casino for fun was a treat.

Later in life she enjoyed going out dancing and dining with her companion Al Costa. Family cookouts and gatherings with her children were always a happy time. She loved family trips when her children were young and continued when she was a grandmother. She traveled to Disney, Kentucky, Florida and the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Mom was always ready to go.

Always willing to try something new with her grandchildren, from riding a horse to bouncing on a trampoline. Her greatest accomplishments and joys were her children.

She is predeceased by her siblings Dorithea Gavoni and George Sewall, son in law Russell Alsheimer and grandson Nicholas Cook.

Gloria is survived by her 5 sons, David Cook and his wife Teri of Carver, Mark Cook of Manomet, Gordon Cook Jr. and his wife Beverly of FL. John Cook and his wife Kerry of Marstons Mills, Robert Cook and his wife Kimberly of KY, daughters Cheryl Alsheimer and her companion James Smith of Plymouth and Cindy Taylor of Carver.

Gloria known as Meme leaves leaves behind 14 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

Throughout her life Gloria had many friends whomshe loved and laughed with. She will always be with us in our hearts.

All are welcome to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Plymouth on January 12, 2024 from 10 to 11am with a funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am and burial at Plymouth County Cemetery.
