My deepest sympathies to all of you, Bill's dear family. Bill welcomed me in as a fledgling substitute back in the 80's at Kingston Elementary School. He was always smiling and one of the kindest people I've ever known. May God bless him.

I was a student of Mr. MacLaren in the late 90s, must have been 4th grade or so. He was a fantastic teacher at KES and one of the few teachers I remember the name of. I vividly remember having one particular hot summer in his classroom. One particular memory was a series of Terrarium(s) he had in the back window of the old part of KES (it may have been just one). It opened up my world to understand life could go on for so long. I'm older now, with kids and a happy life, but his experience will remain with me.
I had the thought of looking up past favorite teachers today in 2024 and was saddened to learned of the recent loss of Bill. My condolences to his family and friends.

I knew Bill when I worked at KES in the 90's. He welcomed everyone and made them feel at home in Kingston, especially with his smile and his laugh. What a great life he had and was admired by so many!

My condolences to his family. I attended Kingston Elementary School in the 70’s and remember him very well. He was well liked by students and always willing to help. Always remember those that helped pave your way.
Blessings,

There are too many laughs and great times with Bill to share just one. He was a very special person whom I first connected with as a coworker, but became a special friend. From KES talent shows to parties and gatherings at his house, there was never a dull moment. He was always the life of the party! I will miss your kind and thoughtful ways, and especially your contagious laugh!! May your soul rest in peace.

Although I never had him as a teacher at KES, I know my mother told me how he really helped and knew how to deal with my brother as a student in the days before kids were diagnosed with ADHD. She thought very highly of him because he knew how to redirect my brother into something active rather than making trouble. This, I believe is a testament of being a great teacher. Prayers and thoughts are with his family.

It was such a pleasure having Bill as a friend as my children were at KES and yes my time on the school committee- His dinners and occasional sailboat ride were terrific- above all he was always available to discuss difficult school issues in a reasonable fashion- enough - a friend sorely missed-- regards chuck conway

My brother sent me this obituary, and I wanted to share how excited my classmates and I would be to have him as a substitute teacher! I’m 26 now, and I still remember the joyful feeling he would bring to the classroom in elementary school. Rest in peace.

Bill was very friendly, fun, and very generous. We taught together at KES for several years. Bill and Gil Robbins (later my husband) came to KES in 1968. They became great friends. I’ll always remember the fun dinner parties Bill put on. Everyone enjoyed them so much. They’re great memories. I know he will be missed.
