Robert Thomas Boyd, 82, of Kingston, MA passed away peacefully in his home on October 30, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born on July 27, 1941, to Robert and Margaret (Norton) Boyd in Dorchester. After graduating from Hyde Park High School in 1959, he began working at Laboratory For Electronics (LFE), a  Boston-based electronics firm, and attended the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology.  In 1960, Bob became a member of the Coast Guard. In 1962, Robert married Philomena Mercanti, his high school sweetheart.  They moved to Kingston shortly after to begin a family on the south shore while Bob continued to serve in the Coast Guard reserves.

Bob was a longtime employee at Polaroid where he worked as an Engineer. After retiring, he continued this work at Kirwan Surgical Products in Marshfield.

Bob was a passionate craftsman always eager to find his next project, and avid collector of automobile brochures and memorabilia.

Bob was a devoted spouse, loving father, and proud grandfather.  He was predeceased by his wife Philomena Boyd in 2001. He is survived by his siblings MaryAnn Rowbotham of Quincy, MA and Lawrence W. Boyd of Brookline, MA, his children Robert F. Boyd of Wrentham, MA, Christopher Boyd of Carver, MA, Melissa Laidlaw and her husband Kenneth Laidlaw of Hanover, MA. and his granddaughter Rosalind Laidlaw of Hanover, MA.

Visiting hours will be at Shepherd’s Funeral Home in Kingston on November 5th from 2:00-6:00 PM. A funeral will be held at St. Joseph’s in Kingston on Monday, November 6th at 10:00 AM, with a burial immediately after at St. Joseph's cemetery.
