Obituary of Rochelle “Rockie” (MacFarlane) Smith
Rochelle "Rockie" (MacFarlane) Smith passed Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Rockie was a graduate of Kingston High School Class of 1955, and The Chandler School of Women Class of 1957. She was a remarkable woman who spent over 60 ears involved with volunteering with The Boy Scouts of America. She was one of the first females inducted into the Order of the Arrow and was responsible for setting up Merit Badge Midway for four different National Jamborees. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, was The Kingston Representative to the South Shore Community Action Counsel for 30 years, and assisted the former Baptist Church of Kingston with secretarial duties. A Medical Secretary/ Transcriptionist over 30 Years, she was one of the first medical billing coders at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth MA. Rochelle earned many awards including the President's Volunteer Service Award for Recognition of her years of service to her community, the BSA Silver Beaver award, the BSA Silver Antelope National award, and the Centurion Award from the BSA Order of the Arrow.
She grew up in Kingston, the sister of Nancy L. Wyner (deceased), Martha L. MacFarlane (deceased), Dorothy J. MacFarlane of Kingston and Sandy D. MacFarlane of Kingston. Widow of the late Dennis B. Smith and mother to Deborah A. Smith of Kingston, Howard B Smith of Weymouth and Mom-in-law to Deborah A. (Wyman) Smith of Weymouth. Aunt of Sharon Tidwell of Climax NC, Brenda Williamson of Plympton, John Wyner of East Wareham, David MacDonald of Plymouth, Kimberly Eldridge of Plymouth, James MacDonald of Plymouth and Ben MacFarlane of Medford, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Services will be at The Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston. Viewing will be Friday, October 27th 4:00 - 8:00 pm and funeral service will be Saturday, October 28th at 10:00 am with internment services following at the Evergreen Cemetery. To her scouting family, we will be arranging a memorial service at Camp Squanto in the near future.
