John was the owner of a very successful construction company MARTIN CONTRACTING CORP. that he started on his own in 1968 with one old backhoe that he purchased. He build his business into something we were all proud of. John helped many in the community with employment opportunities. John always took the time to show people how things were done and teach them.

John Suffered a massive heart attack in April of 1995 that caused anoxic brain damage which left the entire family devastated and heartbroken especially his daughter Deborah and Grandchildren John, Julia and Kristy. John had many difficulties and struggles in the years that passed due to his heart attack.

John L Martin was brilliant and could build anything from scratch. If he needed a car part to fix his car he would actually create it. Back in the day he saw a wood splitter they just started selling, he went home and built his own with his stock pile of parts and junk, “because you never know when you might need that stuff” Some thought it was junk but he knew where everything was and what he might need it for someday.

I loved going to NH to see the old man on the mountain or Stowe VT almost every weekend with my Dad, we would pack up his Corvette and head North

John taught his Grandson (his best friend) John all about construction and how to run equipment, Little John followed in his Grandfather’s footsteps  working in the excavation field. John taught his Daughter Deborah how to drive when she was 5 years old, he used to get her up before kindergarten and have her jump start the old Autocar with the bulldozer.

She was always by his side in the shop.

John loved his family. He had a deep bond with his brother Dennis they shared many exciting adventures with each other. They were crazy! John always fixed his brother Dennis’s long driveway with special red stone, since the heart attack the driveway has never been done.

John lived a fast, fun and crazy life. He loved fast cars, motorcycle’s , snowmobiles, fireworks and blowing things up!!!

He loved fine dining. Bobby Hackett’s was one of his favorites, steak, baked or mashed potatoes  and carrots. This man would come home after work  eat the dinner his Mother made for him , take a nap and go eat dinner number 2 and still stay trim. He loved dinner and Seagram’s 7 & Ginger Ale. I miss my Dad.

My Mom Julie A McClelland Martin and Dad divorced in 1975 but my father continued to love her.

We all missed so much, John passed in 2022 but we lost so many wonderful experiences that could have been had due to his heart attack in 1995.  It was a very hard ,long 27 year illness. My Dad had so much love and so much knowledge that he wanted to pass on to everyone his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that he never had a chance to share.

There is so much history, these are only words to those that read this but there is so much feeling behind these few short stories and all the memories.

I look forward to seeing my Dad again healthy and strong on the earth when it is restored to its original purpose under God’s coming kingdom,

MATT 6:9,10 “You must pray, then, this way:

“‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name  be sanctified.  Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.

John 5:28,29 “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment”

Revelation 21:4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,  and death will be no more,  neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.  The former things have passed away.”

We miss you and love you.
