Obituary of Katherine M. Sylvester

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sylvester, Katherine M., of Duxbury, formerly of Quincy. Beloved wife of Robert D.

Sylvester of Duxbury. Devoted mother of Eric D. Sylvester of Duxbury and Plymouth and Karen L. Cutting of Concord. Also survived by 2 loving grandchildren. Elizabeth K. Cutting and Charlotte G. Cutting both of Concord and two brothers and two sisters-in-law. Joseph O'Donnell and his wife Evelyn, both of Oak Bluffs and Edward F O'Donnell and his wife Theresa, both of Duxbury.

Kathy graduated from NQHS in 1969 followed by attending and graduating from Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing leading her to staff nurse positions at Framingham Union, Leonard Morse, Quincy Hospital and eventually taking her to Jordan Hospital where she specialized in infant care.

Kathy also served for many years on the NAMI Plymouth Area Board of Directors where they provide support, education, and advocacy on behalf of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

On the lighter side, Kathy was a voracious reader spending many hours in her sunroom reading hardcover, paperback and e-books then trading them with her friends for many years.

But for her friends, family, and acquaintances, what she will be mostly remembered for were her chocolate chip cookies and lemon bread. When giving these as gifts, everyone wanted more, and everyone wanted the recipe. She told everyone the recipe is in the Fanny Farmer Cookbook, and we have seen it and it is, but it is so old it looks like one of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Oh well, we will try to find it and share it with all of you.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 28th from 4-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 29th at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church in Duxbury. A graveside service will follow at Mayflower cemetery
