Obituary of Ann Diane Kay

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann Diane Kay, née Volckhausen, was born on October 3, 1937, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to parents Walter Julius and Eva Louise (Formon) Volckhausen.  Ann died peacefully at home on April 27, 2023, at the age of 85.

Ann grew up in West Englewood, New Jersey, with her older sister Joan P Barry.  After a family trip across the United States, visiting many national parks, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1951.  Ann attended West Phoenix High School, where she excelled in languages and was a member of the Productions team.

After attending college at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Ann married William (Wicky) Francis Kay on September 4, 1958.  Her children Wm. Alexander and Roberta Ann were born in Phoenix, Arizona, and her daughter Kathryn Yvonne in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Ann was a member of the Marshfield Women’s Club in the 1960’s and started her lifelong love of entering baked goods, sewing, and knitting items into the Marshfield Fair in 1962, with a first place win for her cornbread. Her chicken egg entries took first place in 2022!

As a mother, Ann always encouraged and supported her children in their interests and journeys, sharing with them her love of animals, music and dance, baking and sewing.  After moving back and forth between Arizona and Massachusetts, Ann settled in Duxbury, Massachusetts where she has lived for the past 38 years and got a position in the Town of Duxbury Tax Collector’s office.

When she retired, Ann loved to read, be with her dog and cats, knit and garden, visit with her family, tend to her chickens, and eat her home-grown peaches!  She will be dearly missed, but will be touring the world in spirit with her parents and sister!  There will be a memorial service in October.
