Richard E. Nickerson, 70 of Plympton passed away on Friday, April 21 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth after a long, hard fought battle with Alzheimer’s.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Chelsea Nickerson and his brother, William Nickerson.

Rich is survived by his wife, Janette (Jan), his son, Colin of Plymouth, Stepson Adam Borey and his wife Alyssa of Middleboro, stepdaughter Lauren Borey and her partner Kamal Patel of Lexington, Brother David Nickerson and his wife Janice of Halifax, Brother James Nickerson and his wife Nell of Morgan Utah, his treasured grandchildren, Abigail and Owen Borey of Middleboro as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born in Brockton, Rich was raised in Pembroke. He attended Silver Lake Regional High School where he made many lifelong friends. Rich lived for a time in Plymouth and eventually settled in Plympton where he has lived for the past 17 years. He worked for the Town of Pembroke in the highway department and the water department, retiring in 2019 from his position as Primary Operator of the water treatment plant.

Rich loved life and made the most of it. He ran multiple Boston Marathons raising money for Cystic Fibrosis research and cure in support of his daughter Chelsea. He enjoyed traveling and hiking the mountains of New Hampshire and the National Parks out west. He was a big fan of Boston sports and loved spending time with his friends and family.

Services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Shepherd’s Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, 02364.  Visiting hours are from 4:00 – 6:00 PM followed by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Alzheimer’s Association or Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Plymouth, Senior Behavioral Health Center.
