William James Cooney, Carver, MA, 88

William James Cooney died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88. Born and raised in Ossining, New York, Bill moved to Whitman in 1964 and then to Carver in 1985 where he enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family, his love of walking and talking with all his neighbors, and visiting the beaches of Plymouth metal detecting and finding treasures. Bill was a member of the Hanson Rod and Gun Club Pistol Team for several years. Bill proudly served his country and was always sharing his experiences with his 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Before retiring Bill worked for IBM for 35 years. Beloved husband of Joanne of 66 years. Devoted father to daughter Carol and husband Vinny, daughter Dawn, son Michael and wife Julie; daughter Kathleen and husband Tom and son James and wife Gade. Services will be private.
