Nancy A. Johnston of Duxbury, MA passed away on Saturday, February 18th at the age of 88 after a courageous 11-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  Nancy is survived by her loving husband, George, and her four sons: Dana (wife Laura) of Alexandria, VA, Scott (wife Katrina) of Cypress CA, Todd (wife Michelle) of Sagamore Beach, MA, and Brian of Duxbury, MA.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind many friends from both Hanover and Duxbury.

 A native of Concord, NH, Nancy graduated from Concord High in 1952 and began her nursing education at The New England Baptist School of Nursing that fall.  She graduated in 1954 and began to work at “the Baptist” that year as an RN.  She married the love of her life, George, in 1957 and they recently celebrated 65 years of marriage together in late 2022.  She later worked nights at the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home for several years to help pay for her son’s college education. 

 She often volunteered her time over the years to groups and events including the New England Hemophilia Association, Chapter 766 (Massachusetts Advocates for Children), Hanover Schools, and The Pan Mass Challenge.   She loved playing games with her family and attending their many events and activities over the years. She enjoyed vacations at Alton Bay in New Hampshire as a child and in Falmouth, MA with her family as an adult. 

Calling hours for Nancy will be held on Monday, March 6th from 4 to 7pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston, MA.  A church service will be held at the Duxbury Baptist Church at 2 Tremont Street in Duxbury at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 7th. Lunch will be held in the church’s fellowship hall following the service.   A private burial will be held at the Duxbury Cemetery following the lunch.  Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston will be coordinating the services. 

 The family would like to say a special thank you to North River Home Care and Bobbie Colby, and the staff at Wingate Nursing Home and Cranberry Hospice.  True angels on earth. 

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, The McCourt Foundation of Braintree Ma. or the New England Hemophilia Association of Dedham Ma.
