Obituary of Robert Edward Fallon

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sorrow we announce the death of Robert Edward Fallon of Duxbury MA on February 4th, 2023.  He was 94 years old.  Born in Burlington VT, he was the son of John and Irene Fallon.  He is the brother of John Jr. (deceased), Katherine (deceased) and is survived by his brother, Richard of Venice, FL.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Hakewessell) Fallon.  Robert was the father of 5 sons; Jeffrey, Stephen and his wife Karen, David (deceased), Peter and his wife Prudence and Daniel and his wife Jill.  He has 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Bob, as he was known to his friends, had a long life and played many roles during his time.  Having been born and raised in Vermont, he was a skier.  Indeed, he proposed to his wife, Shirley on a ski lift.  He loved the mountains and often said his time was spent “talking to God “on the slopes.  He shared that love of skiing with his family and taught all his sons to ski.

He served his country as a naval meteorologist from 1948 to 1950 and was active in the inter-Naval basketball leagues, playing in the Philippines and Japan.  His enjoyment of the game continued throughout his adult life, often playing HORSE with his sons on the driveway court.

The connection to the sea was a strong one and he had a vacation cottage in Orleans, MA for many years and frequently vacationed in the Caribbean and Bermuda, notably at Cambridge Beaches. He was a lifelong boater and took family and friends for frequent cruises in Orleans Cove and Duxbury Bay. Both the ocean and the mountains were impressed so strongly on the family that the memories of one inevitably includes the other.

Bob was a graduate of the University of Vermont and a prolific salesman in his professional life.  Beginning in Manhattan, he became a partner of RW Pressprich which eventually brought him to Albany. This began a long residence in the area, raising his family in Delmar, a suburb of the capital.  He started his own financial firm of Fallon, Towse, Farrand and Vierengel in 1971.  He had a long and successful career in institutional finance; working at Smith Barney, Oppenheimerand AG Edwards.  He worked hard, garnered multiple sales awards and easily made friends. His achievements enabled all his sons the ability to attend college.  Bob and Shirley loved travelling and visited Europe and Africa.

He raised a family in Burlington VT, Wellesley MA, Delmar, NY and Duxbury, MA.  He and Shirley loved animals and they owned a long succession of dogs and cats.  His sons and grandchildren remained close to him throughout his life.  His home was always open to all, and his refrigerator was usually well stocked with Miller Lite.  His wisdom, especially via colloquial sayings - were loved and oft repeated by family and friends.  His friendship, mentoring and love will be sorely missed by many.
