Nora Lydon

Obituary of Nora Lydon

Please share a memory of Nora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Nora (Mellett) Lydon of Kingston, MA passed on Monday, February 13, 2023 after a year long struggle with lung cancer.

Born March 19, 1933 in Camus, County Galway, Ireland, Nora is survived by her six children: Ann Lapham of Middleboro, MA, Sean and Laurel Lydon of Harwich, MA, Barbara and the late Steven Notarangelo of Kingston, MA, Brenda Cappellucci-Hopkins and Roland of Plymouth, MA, Christine Moore and Douglas Moore of Norfolk, MA, and Jennifer and Eugene Shek of Mountain View, CA., 12 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. Several siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mother, Sister, Aunt and friend to many, Nora always had an open heart, door and seat at her table. It brought her joy to extend herself and participate in the lives of those she cared for. All through her lifetime Nora always valued family above all. Giving of herself to her children and their children in any way she could. Passing along her deep faith, love of family, love of Ireland and the traditions of both. Even through this time of extreme illness, it brought her joy to bring people together for simple time spent visiting – not just with her, but to connect others at the same time.

Nora’s legacy to us will be the young woman who came to America on her own, in a red wool dress in the heat of July – not ready for what life would bring, but she rose above it all to raise six very individual children as a family and see us all through to live the best lives we could build based on the example of strength, faith and love of family.

Calling Hours for Nora will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home on Saturday February 18th from 8:30 to 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am at Saint Josephs in Kingston. Burial services to follow at Pembroke Center Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made to St Jude Research Hospital
