Obituary of George G. Gonsalves

George G. Gonsalves, Sr. (Skipper) 77, of Carver, passed away on January 30, 2023.

George grew up in Carver, son of James B. and Mary A. (Reis) Gonsalves. He attended Plymouth-Carver High School where he excelled in sports and is remembered to this day as a football star.

After high school he enlisted in the Air Force serving four years in the Air Police where he received a Presidential Citation for guarding President Johnson. Upon discharge he became involved in the American Legion attaining the rank of State Commander.

George continued his public service as a police officer in Plymouth, MA followed by joining the State Police graduating with the 59th RTT. He served as a K9 officer until his injury in the line of duty.

George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and clamming. He loved nature, working outdoors, and was proud of his landscaping.

Dogs were a big part of George’s life at work and at home having several over the course of his lifetime. He leaves behind his best friend Bear.

George is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Tarra Gonsalves of Taunton, Gabrielle and Angel Morales of Carver, Sierra Gonsalves and Aaron Smith of Seekonk. His stepchildren, Dana Cataldo of Halifax, Andrea and Zack Kieffner of Walpole and their son Calvin. Grandchildren, Angelina, India, Jordan, Marcus, and Tyler. He was predeceased by his son George Jr.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 5th, from 1-5:00 pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main st (Rt. 58) in Carver. A Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6th at United Parish of Carver at 10:00 am followed by grave side service at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all first responders and medical staff that have assisted with George’s care over the years.
