Marjorie (Mead) Strother, of Clay, New York, passed away suddenly on November 7, 2022. Marjorie grew up in Ilion, New York, with her parents Edgar Mead and Isabel (Thompson) Mead, and brothers Allan and David. She is pre-deceased by her parents and brother, Allan, as well as her longtime partner, Bynum Lee Holtzclaw. Marjorie leaves behind brother (David (Joanne)) and three children: Sheryl Strother (John Puopolo- dec), Jef Strother (Debbie), and Keith Strother (Vickey). Marjorie is also survived by the father of her children: Robert G. Strother. Cherished grandmother to Michelle Puopolo (Sheryl), Steven and Savannah Strother (Keith). 

Marjorie attended college at S.U.N.Y. Oswego, earning a teaching degree. She and Robert had three children, and the family soon settled in North Syracuse, where she became an elementary school teacher. Marjorie later returned to S.U.N.Y. Oswego to earn her degree in Psychology, becoming a school psychologist for the North Syracuse Central School District, where she worked for many years. 

The family enjoyed camping and traveling across the country by car during summer vacations- learning about the National Parks and wonders of the United States.  Marjorie’s love of travel eventually resulted in her taking trips to numerous countries, including Japan, China, Russia, Denmark, Germany, and Iceland, among others.  She enjoyed living in Australia for three months with her longtime partner, Lee.

She loved music and supported that in her children.  Marjorie played piano, organ, string bass, and taught herself to play the saxophone at 60! She was a devoted member of Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church and Faith Journey, UMC - serving on numerous committees, creating artwork, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choirs. 

A Celebration of Marjorie’s’ life will be held at Faith Journey UMC, 8396 Morgan Road, Clay, NY, 13041 on Wednesday, November 30,2022, at 11:00 am.
