Obituary of David E. Tanis
David Edward Tanis (Deets), 83, of Carver, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 20, 2022.
Visitation will be held at the Shepherd Funeral home in Carver, Massachusetts on September 29, 2022, 4-8 pm. Funeral service will be held at MA National Cemetery in Bourne, on September 30th at 9:45 am.
David was born in Schenectady, New York to Raymond and Margaret Tanis on April 4, 1939. He went to high school at St. Columbus High School, class of 1956. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at Siena College. David was commissioned 2ndLieutenant US Army ROTC in May of 1960 and served from 1961 to 1963 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Field Artillery. He joined the New York Army National Guard in 1963 as a 1st Lieutenant and was discharged in March of 1975 with the rank of Major. Total service of 14 years in Field Artillery. Jobs included Battery XO, Battery Commander, Fire Direction Officer and Battalion S-3. David worked as an insurance adjuster for Crawford and Company until his retirement.
David had many interests, camping and rving with the beach crew, scuba diving, bocce and whitewater rafting to name a few. His dedicated commitment and passion, besides his wife and family, was his South Meadow Village family. David was their brother, sometimes mentor and always their friend. If there was something going on in South Meadow Village, he was a part of it.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Tanis, of Carver Massachusetts. His children Michael Tanis, of Osterville, Massachusetts. Mark Tanis and his wife Tammy, of Middleboro, Massachusetts. Michelle Peltola and her husband Stephen, of Carver Massachusetts. Melanie Cotti and her husband Michael, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and his 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His brother Glenn Tanis and his wife Patria and numerous nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his brother Paul Tanis
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of David.
