My deepest condolences. I worked with Karl from 2016-20, and will always remember how kind he was, and how he always had a smile on his face.

I worked with Karl at Conservation Law Foundation. His office was across from mine, and we often started the day with a quick chat about the news, his daughter, and just random stuff. His smile and his laugh were infectious. He was also so thoughtful. He introduced me to one of his favorite lunch places near the office. I also became a fan. If he was going to lunch there, he would poke his head into my office and ask me if I wanted anything. Often if he saw I was busy, he would just pick up a dish for me and bring it back.
Karl's daughter was the same age as my niece. He was my advisor on gifts to buy my niece. I got so many cool points from my niece, thanks to Karl.
One of my favorite memories of Karl was the first time I saw him in action at a fundraising event. He walked into that room and just owned the place, chatting with people, making them laugh, exchanging numbers. He seemed to know everyone, and those he didn't know were no longer strangers at the end of the evening. He loved what he did and it showed. Rest in power, Karl. You will be missed, Carol Gregory

Karl was such a wonderful person and important colleague for me at Conservation Law Foundation. He turned fundraising and development work, which had been quite a chore for me over the years at CLF, into a meaningful and intrinsic part of the advocacy I do here. His enthusiasm for CLF and the work we do was contagious and I gained new ways of thinking of our work in every interaction I had with him. He was a true partner in everything we ever did together and I will miss him a great deal. Peter Shelley
