Obituary of Albert “Buzz” Schofield

Please share a memory of Albert “Buzz” to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Albert “Buzz” Schofield died peacefully on March 31, 2022. Buzz was a resident of Jupiter, FL and spent summers in Newport.

Born in 1937 to the late Al and Elsie Schofield, Buzz grew up in Weymouth, MA and spent his summers in Green Harbor where his love of the ocean began.

Buzz was a very proud alum of Massachusetts Maritime Academy (‘58) where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate and inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

An accomplished sailor and member of the New York Yacht Club, Buzz embarked on a lengthy racing career. He was a proud sponsor of the sailing programs at Mass Maritime and Duxbury Bay Maritime School as well as the America’s Cup program.

After his time as a Merchant Mariner, Buzz established his company, Schofield Properties LLC., building and developing properties and was the first to bring condominiums to the South Shore.

Later in life, Buzz’s passions extended beyond the sea to the greens of Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club, Middletown, RI and Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, Jupiter, FL.

Buzz was happiest sailing on his beloved Arieto, traveling to all seven continents, and spending time with his many friends who he considered family.

Buzz is survived by his wife Sandra (Henry) Schofield. He was the beloved father of Jeffrey Schofield and his wife Susan of Duxbury, Melinda Dennett and her husband Paul of Kingston, Keith Schofield of Randolph; cherished grandfather to Austin and Cameron Schofield, Westen and Trever Dennett, Dylan and Chloe Schofield; brother of Susan Jeffrey of Weymouth and Catherine Falkner of Andover; and brother-in-law of Gary Westendorf and his wife Myriam of Palm Desert, CA.

He was predeceased by his sister Rebecca Goshe and his first wife Lynnda Schofield.

Everyone who crossed Buzz’s path experienced his contagious love, passion, and knowledge of the ocean, wind and sky.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rte. 106), Kingston, MA.
