Obituary of Thomas F. Murphy

Thomas F. Murphy, 83, passed away on January 25th, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Tom was born and raised in Brockton, MA, and graduated from Coyle & Cassidy High School in Taunton.  

Tom married Kathleen (Long) Murphy after his army service in 1961.  They resided in Whitman, MA and later Kingston, MA.  In 1993, they moved to Sarasota, FL where they lived for 25 years. He spent his last years in Carver, MA with his loving wife.

He will be remembered by his wife, Kathleen, and their four children, Laureen Gallagher, her husband Paul, their three children Colleen Leyden and her husband Daniel, Thomas Gallagher, his wife Kristin, and Brianna Gallagher;  Lisa Black, her husband Jim, and their three children, Elise, Seamus and Lauren; their son, David Murphy and their daughter Suzanne McCullough, her husband Rob and their two children Sydney and Will, and lastly, Tom’s sister, Ann MacAulay.

Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Marion Murphy, from Brockton MA, and his brother, Michael Murphy from Abington MA.  

Tom will be remembered as being a master carpenter/welder/jack-of-all-trades; an all around excellent maintenance man.  He will always be thought of as the sweet gentleman he was, his ability to make his grandchildren laugh, instilling a strong work ethic in his children, and being generous and kind to everyone he met. 

Tom had many hobbies including following all Boston sports teams, playing golf, and enjoying the beach and pool.  His favorite moments, however, were those he spent laughing with his family and friends.  

A memorial service will be held at the Shepherd  Funeral Home, 116 Main Street

Carver, MA 02330, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 1:00 - 4:00.  A service will be held at 2:30PM. Light refreshments will be available directly after the service at the funeral home.
