Susan P. (Conkey) Santamaria, 66 of West Yarmouth, MA, formerly of Duxbury and Sherborn, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 24 with her loving family by her side.

 

Susan was the daughter of the late Beverly (Eldridge) and Norman Conkey of Sherborn, MA.

She is survived by her daughter Kate Santamaria Gouin and husband Mathew. Her brother Robert Conkey and his partner Brenda Glenny and his children; Amanda Rogers, her children Paxton & Finnegan, Michael Conkey and Samantha Conkey. As well as her sister Diane Galayda and her children; John and Alison Galayda. 

 

Susan was a lover of nature and animals, and embodied that love in her work at the Duxbury Animal Hospital where she started as a vet technician and later became the Manager of the practice.. She was passionate about photographing animals in nature, with deer and birds being her favorite to capture. Susan and her daughter adopted and rescued many pets into their family over the years with her latest fury family member being her beloved cat Booker. Susan shared her love of Disney with her daughter, and together they shared a yearly tradition of vacationing at Disney World. Susan retired to her family cottage on Cape Cod, where she discovered her love for the game of golf.  In fact, she loved golf so much she started her retirement job at the Dennis Golf Courses as “Ranger Sue”, a role which she thoroughly enjoyed. Susan’s friends and family were most important in her life and she will be remembered for making sure that those whom she loved knew, and always felt the love she held for them.  

 

Calling hours for Susan will be held on Friday, February 4th from 10 am to 1pm with a Service at 12:00 noon at the Shepherd Funeral Home 216 Main St. Kingston, Ma. A Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at 11am at the Pine Hills Cemetery located on Cemetery Ln. in Sherborn, MA. All are welcome to attend.

  

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
