Obituary of Delia N Ferreira
Delia (Dede) N. Ferreira, 101, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Westerly Hospital in Westerly, Rhode Island.
She was predeceased by Joseph D. Ferreira, her loving and devoted husband of over 75 years.
She was the daughter of the late Remigio Nava and Louisa (Guidoni) Nava.
She was born in Middleboro, MA although she lived almost her entire life in Kingston, MA.
She was predeceased by her five brothers, Charles Nava (and wife Jean), Angelo Nava (and wife Barbara), Harry Nava (and wife Helen), Frederick Nava (and wife Ellen) and George Nava (and wife Josephine) and by her two sisters, Katherine Cappella (and husband Frank) and Mary Cushman (and husband Francis). She was also predeceased by her grandson's wife, Julie Swistak Maloney.
Dede is survived by her daughter, Jo-Anne (Ferreira) Feeney of South Kingstown RI, and her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lesley (Alger) Ferreira of Kingston MA; three grandchildren, Michael Maloney and his wife Kara of Rochester NY, Sean Maloney of Saunderstown RI and Jamie (Ferreira) Ragaglia and her husband Paul of Apex NC and eight great-grandchildren.
Dede graduated from Kingston High School in 1937 and was a self-employed hairdresser for over 40 years. She took great pride in being on the Kingston Conservation Commission for 17 years and was instrumental in the formation of the Kingston Council on Aging and in the development of the "ball fields on Pottle Street."
She loved painting, sewing and doing crafts with her granddaughter in her spare time. She was a very special lady who passed her grit, determination and work ethic on to her children and grandchildren.
Services will be private at a later date.
