Emel McCrillis was born in La Grange Park, Ill.  She was the daughter of Louis C. Ruthy and Mary Majescak.  She is survived by her husband, Glenn M. McCrillis, Jr., her children and their spouses, Robin McCluskey (John), Tracy Kenney (Joe), her grandchildren Meghan Giroux (Simon), Will Kenney (Rahela Aziz-Bose), Kathleen Kenney, and dear friend Kay Dorman.  She was pre-deceased by her parents, sisters Joan and Joyce, and her grandson Patrick.  Emel and Glenn met at Hobart William Smith College in Geneva, NY.  They married in 1952 and enjoyed 69 years of marriage residing in Glenn’s hometown of Brockton, MA before moving to Duxbury, MA.  Emel was a career educator as a reading specialist and a special education administrator.  She was active in numerous community organizations both in Brockton and Duxbury, importantly First Parish Duxbury.  Emel’s interests included knitting, sewing, needlepoint, painting, gardening, interior design, reading, and above all entertaining her family on the holidays.  She was fiercely independent, a force of nature, and devoted to her family and friends.  The family extends grateful thanks to the staff of Newfield House in Plymouth, MA, her home before a move to the Shaw Home in October 2021.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory are asked to act with kindness and compassion toward someone in need.  Per Emel’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022.  For obituary, condolences and memories, shepherdfuneralhome.com
