Obituary of Helen l Smith
Helen loring Smith, a life long resident of Kingston, MA, died on July 9, 2021. She was born in Plymouth on May 3,1936 and graduated from Kingston High School and Fisher College in Boston. She also studied at Bridgewater State College. While in Boston, she was a member of the modern dance group and had worked for a surgeon, Dr. Hollis L. Albright of Newton and later worked at the Plymouth Medical Building. Helen was also employed as an Editorial Assistant for several local news papers where she began writing satirical essays and performing reviews for the South of Boston section of the Reporter News Papers. She also enjoyed writing stage comedies and skits, locally and in Florida. Her freelance work was published in “Coonerty Living” and “Dogs Fancy”.
She was a character of the Down East Dancers of Massachusetts and taught Country Line Dancing for many local organizations and if Florida and continued teaching Line Dancing even after being diagnosis with Parkinson Disease. Helen was also a charter member of the Mayflower Chapter of Sweet Adeline’s of Plymouth where she sang with various quartets. In the past, Helen also belonged to the Jones River Village Historical Society, Cape Cod Writers Conference and the Writers Block. While wintering in Florida, she was a member of the Palm Lake Social Club in Parrish, Florida, and the Palm Lake Players, and appeared in many stage productions. Helen also sang with the Gardeneirs Chorus in Florida. She was a devoted Red Sox fan and never met a Cat she didn’t love. Music was important to her and she was a fan of Classical Music, Jazz and all forms of Country Music. She enjoyed being generous to her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Judson Loring Smith and his wife Elizabeth of Braintree, two Granddaughters, Samantha and Teresa, Her Sister -in law Virginia of FT. Myers, Florida; her longtime companion, Philip Mazzola of Kingston; her former husband and friend, Dwight Smith of Duxbury and many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister, Phillis Loring, brothers Robert, Porter and Fred Loring and her sister-in law, Marjorie smith.
