Obituary of John William Knight

Please share a memory of John William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John William Knight (Jack) passed away peacefully on June 10, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Born January 4, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, Jack spent his life focused on family, friendships, and faith. He was known for his warm personality and his unending enthusiasm for life. He was the first in his family to go to college on a football scholarship to Colorado College. He then returned to Chicago where he met the love of his life, Sheila Murphy. He also launched a sales career that gave him great satisfaction as well as the chance to move around the country with NCR. Jack ultimately landed in HIngham, Massachusetts in 1974 where he and Sheila raised their four children. The friendships he made in their neighborhood and at St. Paul's Church endured for many years, as did the friendships made in Duxbury over 20 years of retirement.

Jack's favorite role was as husband to Sheila, father to Julie, John, Tim and Colleen and grandfather of eleven wonderful grandchildren. He made everyone he met feel like they were the most important person in the room, and everyone who met Jack could not forget his terrific smile.

Jack is survived by his sister, Mary Thompson and his four children and their spouses: Julie (Karl) Maier, John (Lisa) Knight, Tim (Ellen) Knight, and Colleen (Sean) Harvey.  He also leaves his eleven grandchildren: Henry, Will, JP, Christopher, Bitsie, Caitlin, Allison, Cara, Owen, Patrick and Calvin. He was predeceased by his wife Sheila and his brothers, Brian and Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 15 at Holy Family Church in Duxbury at 10 a.m. Visitation will be at Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston on Monday, June 14 from 4-7 p.m.  Donations may be made to Miramar Retreat Center miramarretreat.org/giving or BID Plymouth www.bidplymouth-giving.org. Please direct gifts to the Cancer Center in memory of Jack Knight.
