Obituary of William Whitman

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William M. Whitman passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 7, 2021 at the age of 69 after a long and courageous battle with COVID-19.  Bill was predeceased by his father Dale (Shirley) Whitman and his mother Dorothy (Joseph) Abel.  He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Judith; brothers Dale (Patricia) Whitman of Clermont, FL; John (Rose) Whitman of Waynesboro, PA;  sister  Nancy (Lawrence) Nuccitelli of Championsgate, FL and cousin, Linda Lee (Douglas) Von Iderstein of Duxbury, MA,  his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and very special friends.

Bill was born in Hamlin, NY, son of the late Dale and Dorothy Whitman, and graduated from Brockport High School in Brockport, NY.  Bill and his brothers knew the meaning of hard work growing up on a 200 acre diary farm.  When he wasn’t milking cows or baling hay, you would find him down by the creek fishing with his dog, Charlie Brown.  In high school, Bill was an exceptional athlete who played baseball and basketball.  He went on to attend Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA and graduated with a bachelors degree in Sociology.  He worked many years as a dedicated social worker in the Boston area and later went on to start his own business.

Although Bill lived and worked in Boston, he was an avid New York Yankees fan.  He spent many hours talking with his Dad and brothers critiquing the games.  When Bill was not working, he enjoyed gardening and socializing with friends and neighbors.  But most of all, he loved singing.  His beautiful voice and love of music will be remembered by all who enjoyed his performances.

Bill had a special place in his heart for children especially those that were struggling or disadvantaged.  Memorial contributions may be made to a mission that feeds and educates orphaned children in Kenya.  Donations may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church, 511 Celebration Avenue, Celebration FL.  34747 and reference Kenya Mission.

A private celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date
