Obituary of Maureen Madden
Maureen Madden, 80 of Duxbury, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 26th at home with her husband and children.
Maureen graduated from Burdett College in Boston when she met her husband, Jack in 1958. She was an accountant at AVCO Corporation and worked at Duxbury Town Hall for 15 years with many dear friends. She also taught quilting, knitting and cooking evenings at various schools in New York and Massachusetts.
Best known as the “Gingerbread Lady” in Duxbury where she made gingerbread houses at the annual family Christmas party. For twenty-two years, the gatherings usually totaled 100 guests with dear grandchildren and family friends she called “non-biological family”.
For their 50th wedding anniversary, she surprised Jack by putting on her wedding gown again and recaptured the event at Holy Family with many of the original guests. Exciting indeed.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack who describes their marriage “Heaven on Earth”. Her three children, son Jack and his wife Elizabeth of Holden, daughter Susan Bradford and her husband, Daniel of Merrimack, NH, and daughter Deborah Lilley of Andover and by her sister, Lois Chadwick of Haverhill, MA.
