Obituary of Dennis B. Smith
Dennis B. Smith, 86 of Kingston, Mass passed away on January 17, 2021 at BIID Plymouth.
Dennis was born in Plymouth to Marion E. Raymond and LeRoy B. Smith on Feb. 14, 1934. He went to Plymouth High School, graduating in 1952. A Boy Scout of Plymouth Troop 47 he also worked for his step-father, Charles Murray of Murray’s Wholesale Groceries delivering to local schools and many restaurants on the Cape.
He went on to Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston, and he worked at Filene’s Dept. Store. He then joined the Air Force. After the Air Force he went to Northeastern University where he earned a B.S. in Business. He worked for Leland’s Restaurant in Kingston during his time at Northeastern. He joined Army ROTC. After college he served in the US Army as an officer and fixed wing aviator and stayed in the Reserves. Upon completion active duty, he continued in the reserves until 1982 retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He joined Trans World Airlines in Dec. 1964 and flew as an Engineer, Co-Pilot and Captain, retiring at the age of 64.
He is survived by his spouse, Rochelle “Rockie” MacFarlane Smith, daughter Deborah Smith, son Howard Smith and is wife Deborah. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Wall, of Plymouth and stepbrothers Edgar Murray, wife Mary, and Ernest Murray of Plymouth and sisters-in-law, Dorothy MacFarlane and Sandra MacFarlane of Kingston and Martha MacFarlane of Plymouth. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather Charles Murray, mother Marion E. Raymond and his father LeRoy Smith, sister Virginia Wall and his brother John Smith.
Visitation will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Monday, January 25, 2021 from 4 – 7:00 pm. A private funeral service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Kingston at 1:00 PM.
