Obituary of Jimmie L. Wooten

Please share a memory of Jimmie L. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jimmie Lee Wooten was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on August 12, 1961. Jimmie grew from that time to become a man with many nicknames and titles: Jimmie, Jim, “Jima,” “Jaime,” Dad, Brother, Friend, Teacher/“Señor.” He also grew to become an independent, smart, motivated, meticulous, open-minded, intelligent, kind, and adventurous man from a young age.

As someone who “never stopped going to school,” Jimmie wasan alumna of Lynn English High School (winning Mr. Lynn), Brandeis University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree, Boston College where he received his Master’s Degree, he also received a second masters degree at UMASS Dartmouth in education and had begun taking classes this year to further his education. He was a man of many successful careers. From a lineman at Ma Bell, to an executive at Verizon, to a completely new career path as a Spanish teacher at both Plymouth North High School and within Brockton Public Schools, most recently at Brockton’s South Middle School. One of Jimmie’s greatest loves was his students; teaching, sharing knowledge, gaining knowledge, building, advising and creating.

Jimmie’s free time from childhood to adulthood was spent playing, coaching, and refereeing soccer. He also played football, baseball, basketball, bowled, played golf, was dedicated to bettering himself at guitar and speaking Spanish, loved music, singing, and much more. He shared much of this with his daughter as she grew up.

Jimmie was also a lover of travel. He had the privilege of traveling as an international student and taking trips abroad with his friends and family. Most greatly noted was his love for España (Spain). He visited what he called his “adopted home/country” as he was able, and had dreams to live there, continue his travels, and live out his big dreams.

Jimmie also cherished and adored his relationship with Christ. He believed that Christ has plans for all, and that through any moment, whether it was filled with pain or joy, that Christ had the power to lead us to live the best life possible – on earth, or in heaven. He found peace and strength through the ability to rely on and believe in Him.

Jimmie is predeceased by his grandmother Lizzie Thomas, grandfather Fred Thomas, mother Ida B. Wooten, sister Barbara Wooten, and brother Aaron “Hank” Wooten Jr. He is survived by his daughter Simone Wooten, his father Aaron Wooten Sr., and his siblings Beatrice Wooten, Fredrick Wooten, James Wooten, Richard Wooten, Leaslie Wooten Raye, and Rose Wooten. In addition, he will continue to be loved by cousins, colleagues of the past and present, neighbors, students, friends domestic & international, chosen family (especially “The Riley’s”), students, gym friends, and all those who have crossed his path.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24
