Obituary of Eleanor Olson

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eleanor Olson (Lydon, Walsh) shuffled off her mortal coil peacefully in the company of those who loved her on July 3, 2020. Ellie was born on August 13,, 1934.

Ellie would have been 86 years old this August. She died from running out of life. Ellie suffered in her last years from a long series of draining illnesses. She fought hard to continue to enjoy her life, but when she passed she was ready and went at peace.

Ellie lived in Massachusetts her entire life, growing up in Milton and raising her family in Weymouth, before retiring to Mashpee, and living finally at Keystone Place in Bourne, where she passed on and where she was cared for with much love.

Ellie was mother to three children, stepmother to three children, and “other mother” to many more. She was married to Stuart Olson of Hingham from 1957 until 1964. She remarried Richard (Dick) Walsh of Weymouth who pre-deceased her in 1983.

Ellie had a B.A. and an M.A. in Education and Guidance from Bridgewater State University.  During her career years Ellie was a P.E. teacher for Rockland Junior High and then a guidance counselor at Randolph North Jr. High. She retired from Randolph Schools in 1996.

Ellie loved the beach and swimming, going out on the boat with her husband Dick, and travelling. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She loved sports, enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid tennis player and fan. She loved watching the Red Sox and other Boston sports teams.

The family wishes to specially thank Keystone Place at Buzzards Bay and Beacon Hospice for the truly excellent care and genuine affection they gave Ellie in the difficult last years, they kept her comfortable, safe, happy, laughing and loved through her crossing to her afterlife.

Her six children, their four spouses, seven grand children, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many “extra kids” survive Ellie, as well as her remaining friends.

There will be no immediate services due to Covid 19, the last thing Ellie would have wanted would be for someone to get sick attending what she always referred to as “the festivities.” If you wish you may visit the grave at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston, Mass. Grave A 139B on your own schedule, after July 8, 2020. When things return to “normal” there will be a celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, Ellie wanted people to go have a lobster roll, or an ice cream cone in her honor. She preferred Mocha Chip.
