Obituary of Arthur D. Anderson, III

Arthur Daniel Anderson III of South Dennis died peacefully on June 16, 2020. Dan, as he was known, was born on September 5, 1937 in Plymouth, MA. to Arthur Daniel Anderson Jr and his wife Elizabeth Soule Anderson. He grew up in Cohasset and Marshfield, MA. and later raised his family in Cohasset. He attended Marshfield High School where he was an outstanding athlete and played on their football and basketball teams. He captained the football team and led the basketball team to a state championship. Following high school, Dan attended Naval Flight School in Pensacola, FL. and became a navy pilot stationed in Norfolk, VA. Following his Navy service, he became a salesman extraordinaire. He was a yacht broker at Scituate Yacht Company for many years and was well known on the South Shore and Cape Cod for the company he founded, Anderson Clambakes. He will be remembered as a hardworking, larger than life, devoted family man with a quick wit and kind heart who was always willing to help others. His great joys were his family, his Swedish heritage, his family lineage as a Mayflower descendent of George Soule, and being a member of the Soule Kindred. He loved the ocean, was an avid boater with a 100-ton Captain’s License. He was a prolific reader of history, enjoyed his pet goats, and spent hours tinkering with his antique cars.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Barbara Tilley Anderson, two sons Arthur Daniel Anderson IV, Eirik Charles Anderson and his partner Osbaldo, daughter Ingrid Elizabeth Drago and her husband John. Proud Bumpa to Justin Shaughnessy, Nick and Taylor Drago. He is survived by his sister Astrid Elizabeth Hardy, his brother Mark Wakefield Anderson and his wife Christi. Dan is predeceased by his sister Deborah Winsor MacDonald and his brother-in-law John S. Hardy. He is also survived by his nephews Rob, John, Mel, Josh, Ian, and his nieces Lisa, Gretchen, and Brett.A memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s memory may be made to MSPCA.
