Obituary
Obituary of Joseph P. Carroll
Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Patrick Carroll, 76, of Duxbury passed away on April 26 following an extended illness. He was born in Boston on January 7, 1944 to Joseph and Margaret Hurley Carroll. Joe spent his early years in Somerville MA prior to the family move to Winthrop, MA. It was in Winthrop where Joe developed his lifelong love of the seashore.
Joe was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the North End, and a 1965 graduate of Boston College.
He went to work for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY immediately upon graduation. He began his career there as a trainee in the Graphic Arts Division. He was assigned to his first printing sales position in Pittsburgh, PA in 1965. Many relocations followed as Joe advanced in his career, receiving recognition and awards in his professional life. Stops along the way included Setauket, Long Island, NY, Briarcliff Manor, NY, Victor, NY, Westport, CT, and ultimately Duxbury, MA.
It was after the move to Duxbury that Joe reinvented himself. He became the proud owner of Duxbury Wine & Spirits in 2000. It seemed to have been a natural calling given his friendly, witty, and gregarious personality. He loved engaging with customers, many of whom became friends. Joe was a gifted individual in many areas and had many interests. He loved sports, both as a participant and a fan. He prided himself on never missing a Red Sox or Patriots game. Joe was a terrific photographer and many of his most beautiful pictures were taken at his beloved Duxbury Beach. He also put his camera to good use taking many endearing and whimsical pictures of his longtime, devoted canine companion, Hazel. Joe was a real music lover and passionate about playing his guitar, never missing an opportunity to jam. He was endlessly proud of his two children and their accomplishments. The time Joe shared with his beloved grandson, George, was far too short but he loved their time together……..they made each other laugh.
Joe is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Carole Carroll along with his two children Dr. Jennifer Carroll and her husband, Roger Richards of Aurora, CO and his son, Michael and his fiancee, Carolina MacRae and their precious son, George of Plymouth, MA. Also left to mourn his passing are his brother, Paul Carroll and wife Susan of Easton, MD and his sister, Mary Beth Doherty and her husband James of Winthrop, MA. Joe also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caring, compassionate caregivers at BayPath Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, along with Cranberry Hospice, for making Joe’s final months so meaningful.
A memorial service to honor Joe and celebrate his life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to gather family and friends together, hopefully in the near future, when it is safe to do so.
